Man’s body pulled out of Pierce County river Tuesday, police say

A man was found dead in the Puyallup River on Tuesday, according to police.

Fife police were dispatched to 66th Avenue East on North Levee Road East for a man found dead in the river. Central Pierce Fire & Rescue personnel also responded, according to a Puyallup Police Department news release.

People who had been fishing on the river told officers that the man was first seen moving downriver, the release said.

“Officers of the Puyallup Police Department, along with detectives with the Puyallup Police Department’s Investigative Services Unit, responded to the scene to assume the investigation,” the release said.

North Levee Road East in both directions between the Milroy Bridge/66th Avenue East and 70th Avenue East was temporarily closed, the Fife Police Department posted on X at 11:13 a.m.

The man was pulled out of the river, the release said. The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office took his body for an autopsy.

Anyone with information on the circumstances or the man’s identity is asked to call the Puyallup Police Department’s tip line at 253-770-TIPS(3343) or by email at tips@puyallupwa.gov.
