Space heater likely cause of Gig Harbor boat fire
A space heater likely caused a fire that destroyed a boat early Wednesday at a Gig Harbor marina, investigators said.
No one was inside the 35-foot pleasure boat when the fire started about 4 a.m. at the West Shore Marina, 3815 Harbor View Drive.
Someone left the heater plugged in to keep the boat warm, said Eric Waters, fire prevention division chief for Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One.
“Unfortunately it will pretty much be a total loss,” he said. “It burned almost down to the water line.”
No one was hurt, and Waters said firefighters kept the blaze from spreading to other boats nearby.
