A 58-year-old woman died Friday when a fire destroyed her East Tacoma house, according to the Tacoma Fire Department.

Neighbors reported the blaze in the 3800 block of East Spokane Street about midnight when they noticed smoke. The house was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

Crews found Paula Zimmer-Friant’s body after extinguishing the fire.

Firefighters returned to the house hours after they put out the fire to douse hot spots that continued to flare up.

A cause has not been determined.
