1 arrested, 1 on loose after early-morning gunfight in Puyallup, police say

One person was arrested and one is still on the loose after reports of gunfire led to a police chase early Sunday in Puyallup, according to police there.

The incident started in the 2500 block of South Meridian Street about 5 a.m., the department announced.

According to police:

Officers were called to the area after several residents of an apartment complex and a nearby senior living community reported hearing gunfire and screaming.

Some callers told 911 about a vehicle that left the apartment complex toward 27th Avenue Southeast, and an officer spotted it on 27th Avenue and 7th Street Southeast.

The officer attempted to stop the vehicle because it was leaving the area of the gunfire, but the vehicle sped off.

A short pursuit ensured, going along Shaw Road East, 23rd Avenue Southeast and Forest Green Boulevard, where the vehicle crashed and its two occupants fled.

An Auburn police K-9 unit was dispatched to the scene and located one of the suspects and bit him before he was arrested.

Inside the vehicle, there was a large amount of drugs and multiple rifles.

The other suspect, described as a white man in his late 20s or early 30s, was able to get away. He likely is sweaty and has lots of scratches from fleeing through trees and underbrush.

Anyone who saw a suspicious man in the neighborhood Sunday morning is asked to contact 911.
