Stepsiblings in Auburn homicide-suicide identified

Stepsiblings killed in an Auburn homicide-suicide earlier this month have been identified as 23-year-old James Balcerak and 21-year-old Brianna Smith, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Police said it appeared Balcerak fatally shot Smith on June 7 along 122nd Court Southeast, KIRO-TV reported. Both died from gunshot wounds to the head and later were found by officers.

The Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Thursday that Balcerak’s death was a suicide and Smith’s a homicide.
