Pierce County inmate from Ocean Park found dead in bunk

An inmate at the Pierce County Jail was found dead in her bunk Monday morning.

Winona Taraya, 47 of Ocean Park, was found dead about 8:30 a.m., according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department and the county Medical Examiner’s Office.

The cause and manner of her death have not yet been determined.

There were no obvious signs of foul play, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

Taraya was booked into the jail Sunday by Puyallup Tribal Police on warrants for third-degree driving with a suspended license and third-degree theft, after she was charged in Pierce County District Court, Troyer said.

He said her bail was $3,000.
