Bonney Lake homeowner shoots intruder, police say

Bonney Lake police on Monday were investigating an apparent home-invasion robbery that ended when a man shot an alleged intruder, authorities said.

The incident occurred about 8:20 a.m. at a house in the 7200 block of 193rd Avenue East.

Initial reports indicated a man in his 20s or 30s was trying to break into the house when the male resident, who is in his 50s, confronted him, police spokesman Todd Green said.

The would-be intruder pointed a gun at the resident, who drew his own weapon and fired, Green said. A bullet hit the would-be intruder in the leg, and he was taken to a Tacoma hospital for treatment.

Police seized two guns at the scene, and the resident and his live-in girlfriend were taken to police headquarters for questioning, Green said.

Investigators were on the scene, and 193rd Avenue East is closed between Bonney Lake Boulevard and 75th Street East.
