Teen charged in Tacoma man’s death arrested in Spokane
A 17-year-old charged along with three others in the fatal shooting of a Tacoma man has been arrested in Spokane.
Isiah H. Cavitt, 17, has not yet been brought back to Pierce County. He is charged with second-degree murder in the Nov. 7 death of 19-year-old Philip Ryan Jr.
Co-defendants Jasiah Inpeace Tolbert, 16, and Arkeats Lintel Ross, 19, have pleaded not guilty to the same charge. They are being held in lieu of $1 million bail each.
A fourth teen, Domunick Smiley, 15, has been arrested and charged in the shooting.
Charging papers give this account:
Tolbert was supposed to have a fistfight at his home with a rival so he invited friends over, including Cavitt, Ross and Smiley.
When the rival didn’t show up, the other boys asked Tolbert for a ride to South 19th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way.
Smiley asked Tolbert to pull over on MLK near South Ninth Street and everyone got out of the car and walked across the street to a group near a bus stop.
Tolbert recognized Ryan and said hello. Then Smiley accused Ryan of sexually assaulting a family member. Prosecutors say there is no evidence Ryan sexually assaulted anyone.
Witnesses told police Smiley called Ryan by name before pulling out a gun and fatally shooting him.
