Man arrested in connection to July slaying of Key Peninsula woman
Investigators arrested a man Monday they believe killed a Key Peninsula woman while burglarizing her home earlier this year.
A Pierce County Sheriff’s deputy found 69-year-old Lynn Cooper fatally stabbed July 6 in her house in the 14100 block of 144th Street KPN.
Detectives brought in the 32-year-old suspect for questioning and arrested him on suspicion of first-degree murder about 6:30 p.m. Monday, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.
“We believe he didn’t think she was home, she woke up from a nap, confronted him and he stabbed her to death,” Troyer said.
The deputy who found Cooper’s body had seen a parked Ford Explorer, thought it might be stolen, and tracked the license plate to Cooper’s house, where she had been dead for some time.
The stolen vehicle, recovered weapons and DNA led investigators to the suspect, Troyer said.
The News Tribune does not generally name suspects before they have been charged with a crime.
