18-year-old men plead not guilty to charges they raped Tacoma girl
Two 18-year-old men pleaded not guilty Monday to rape charges after a 13-year-old Tacoma girl’s family found sexual text messages on her phone.
Cody Maxx Johnson pleaded not guilty to second-degree rape and second-degree rape of a child. Pierce County Court Commissioner Meagan Foley set his bail at $25,000.
Adrian Zazueta pleaded not guilty to second-degree rape of a child. Foley ordered him released on his own recognizance.
Court records did not list attorneys for either man.
Charging papers give this account:
After the family found the texts, police went to the girl’s home in 2015 to interview her and she told investigators she had had sex with two people.
Court records show that at the time of the alleged crimes, both men were 17 years old and the girl was 13 years old.
The girl said she met Johnson online. He came to her school at the end of the day in early January 2015, told her to get into his car and drove off with her.
After they talked for awhile, he choked her and made her perform oral sex on him, she told police.
She said the other man she had had sex with was Zazueta. Police found text messages between the two that suggested she performed oral sex on him in early December 2014, and that she told him she was 13 years old before then.
