Man shot dead inside Tacoma apartment

A man was shot to death inside his Tacoma apartment early Sunday after a confrontation broke out during a party, police said.

Maluelue Fitiao, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene. His 29-year-old girlfriend was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center with multiple gunshot wounds. She is expected to survive and is in stable, satisfactory condition, according to a hospital spokesman.

No one has been arrested.

Officers were called about 12:40 a.m. to the 7400 block of McKinley Avenue and found a small gathering in the apartment Fitiao and his girlfriend shared. Several people had already left the scene before police arrived.

Detectives found multiple shell casings from two different caliber guns, which means there could be two shooters. No guns were recovered from the scene.

It’s unclear what prompted the shooting.

“Some sort of dispute broke out,” police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said.
