Fire snarls I-5 traffic in Lakewood
West Pierce Fire & Rescue crews battled a brush fire along Interstate 5 on Sunday afternoon that closed two lanes of traffic for hours.
Firefighters were dispatched to the small fire, near the southbound exit to Bridgeport Way Southwest, about 12:15 p.m. and didn’t leave the scene until 2:30 p.m.
The two righthand lanes of southbound I-5 were blocked there, according to the Washington state Department of Transportation.
Backups stretched for 7 miles behind the blaze, according to WSDOT.
