Delays on southbound I-5 near DuPont on Friday morning after semi-truck fire

Drivers traveling south on Interstate 5 out of Tacoma Friday morning experienced significant delays in DuPont while crews cleaned up a semi-truck fire blocking two lanes of traffic.

Two southbound lanes near Center Drive were closed at 7:10 a.m., according to a tweet from the Washington State Department of Transportation in Tacoma.

Few details about the semi-truck fire were released. The fire burned a load of mattresses, and no injuries were reported.

“Expect southbound I-5 backups approaching DuPont through late this morning until we can clean up this mess,” WSDOT said in the tweet.

The fire was reported at about 3:55 a.m. at milepost 118.
