Vehicle fire on Tacoma Narrows Bridge creates traffic delays Wednesday morning
A car caught fire about 9 a.m. Wednesday on the westbound Tacoma Narrows Bridge, creating traffic delays in the area.
Washington State Department of Transportation announced on X, formerly known as Twitter, that firefighters are helping knock the flames down. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
Washington State Patrol Trooper John Dattilo said the people inside the car were able to make it out and no injuries have been reported.
At about 9:20 a.m., WSDOT said after fire crews finish putting out the flames, WSDOT will inspect the driving surface and it is not known when the bridge will fully reopen.
Update 10 a.m.: All lanes have cleared westbound on the bridge, but backups are expected to continue for a while, according to WSDOT.
