Semi crash on I-5 in Tacoma spills fuel, starts fire and snarls traffic Tuesday evening

A vehicle crash on Interstate 5 in Tacoma started a fire that is burning in the freeway’s median Tuesday evening. Traffic is slowed in both directions, police report.

The non-injury crash between a car and a semi-truck in the northbound lanes near Delin Street spilled fuel onto the freeway, according to Washington State Patrol spokesman Trooper John Dattilo.

The state Department of Transportation reported the wreck at 5:24 p.m.

Three other crashes in the vicinity are adding to the traffic nightmare. Traffic is stop-and-go in the southbound lanes from Federal Way to the scene.
