The westbound lanes of state Route 512 near the site of a car fire Friday evening have reopened, Washington State Patrol spokesperson John Dattilo posted on X at 7:40 p.m.

“It is unknown at this time how the fire started, but no collision was involved,” he wrote.

A car fire on eastbound state Route 512 near Steele Street South closed lanes in both directions on the highway Friday evening.

Washington State Patrol spokesperson John Dattilo posted on X that troopers were on scene near Ainsworth Avenue South, which is close to Steele Street South, at 7:20 p.m.

“Thankfully everyone made it out of the car safely,” Dattilo wrote.

He said in a phone call at about 7:40 p.m. that two westbound lanes were about to reopen.

An earlier post from the Washington State Department of Transportation reported the incident as a collision near Steele Street South at milepost 0.7, but Dattilo said in a phone call that he has yet to confirm that it was a collision. Updates will be posted on social media, he said.
