The following are criminal cases heard recently in Skagit County Superior Court:

ANIMAL CRUELTY

A 35-year-old Sedro-Woolley man was sentenced to two years, nine months in prison Thursday after pleading guilty to two counts of first-degree animal cruelty.

According to court records, on Dec. 5 law enforcement learned that Joshua Jo Whitney had assaulted several dogs in the 3400 block of Newberg Place north of Sedro-Woolley.

In exchange for his guilty pleas, Whitney had five other charges dropped.

ASSAULT

A 60-year-old Mount Vernon man was sentenced to 15 months in prison Thursday after pleading guilty to second-degree assault with a deadly weapon and fourth-degree assault.

According to court records, on July 6 Patrick Lynn Morris threatened a woman with a knife to force her to have sex with him.

TRESPASSING

A 27-year-old Mount Vernon man was sentenced to 30 days in jail Wednesday after pleading guilty to first-degree criminal trespass and fourth-degree assault.

According to court records, on Oct. 29 Pablo Serefino-Lopez entered the home of another man in the 22000 block of Cheryl Drive north of Sedro-Woolley and struck the man.
