Off-duty Skamania County sheriff's deputy shot a dog that he said charged at him

May 7-An off-duty Skamania County sheriff's deputy shot a dog outside his Clark County home Wednesday that he said charged at him, according to the Skamania County Sheriff's Office.

Deputy Boris Kioroglo had just arrived home from his shift, shortly before 6 p.m., when he saw the German shepherd circling his patrol car. When he got out, the dog charged toward him, he said.

The Skamania County Sheriff's Office said Kioroglo first tried to use his department-issued Taser, but it was ineffective in stopping the animal.

The dog continued to pose "an imminent threat of serious injury," the agency said, so Kioroglo fired his duty gun, striking and killing the dog.

No people were injured.

Investigators said they are aware of multiple complaints involving the dog, including a dog-bite incident that Clark County Animal Protection and Control had investigated.

The Clark County Sheriff's Office responded and investigated due to the shooting happening within its jurisdiction.

Sheriff's spokesperson Sgt. Matt Volker said Thursday that the dog lived in the neighborhood. He said the agency is not pursuing charges against the owner or deputy.
