La Conner High School running track to be resurfaced
The La Conner School District will resurface the running track at the high school to improve safety and usability, thanks to a large single donation.
The district received $200,000 from Foundry10, a philanthropic Seattle-based education research organization, to support the project.
The total project cost is about $250,000. The remaining $50,000 is set to come from the district's Capital Projects Fund.
One of Foundry10's priorities is encouraging exercise and physical activity by students.
The high school's track is 55 years old and has needed consistent repairs and maintenance in recent years.
La Conner School District spokesperson Megan Boyer said the track needs to be resurfaced to improve safety and usability for student-athletes, physical education programs and the community.
A dark blue polyurethane coating will be applied to the track. The project will begin after school is out, and is expected to take about four weeks.
On April 28, the School Board approved a bid for the project for $236,515.30, which does not include taxes. In a board meeting May 26, the board discussed plans to move forward with the project.
Boyer said costs and funding amounts are based on information presented to the board and may be subject to final project expenditures.
