Cycle Chelan Race kicks off Saturday

If you're driving around Lake Chelan and even out on McNeil Canyon Road this weekend, you may see cyclists participating in this year's Lake Chelan Rotary Club Cycle Chelan races.

The Lake Chelan Rotary Club hosts an annual cycling race to raise money for scholarships for graduating seniors from Chelan and Manson high schools. The race is made up of four different races, including the Signature 100, a 100-mile ride around Lake Chelan and even a challenging climb through McNeil Canyon Road in Douglas County.

The event is from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., but Douglas County says that impacts may begin earlier to allow for race setup and may extend after 5 p.m., according to a Douglas County news release.

Warning signs and race marshals will be on the road, but no Douglas County roads will be closed. Impacts on traffic flow are expected to be minimal. Motorists may encounter minor slowdowns, according to the news release.

The other three races occurring Saturday include a 30-mile race through Chelan's wine country, a 45-mile circle around Lake Chelan and a race over 60 miles meant for intermediate to advanced riders. All the routes are facilitated via a ferry ride across Lake Chelan.
