'Our Beautiful Butte' art show opens June 18 at Vogue Coffee Bar
Local artist Ron McGaughey will exhibit 30 original landscape paintings at Vogue Coffee Bar in Chelan from June 18 through Aug. 1 in a show titled "Our Beautiful Butte."
A public reception is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. June 18 at the Chelan coffee shop.
The exhibition features paintings depicting views of and from Chelan Butte, a prominent landmark overlooking the Chelan Valley. Proceeds from artwork sales will benefit the Chelan Basin Conservancy and its efforts to preserve the butte.
McGaughey studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia and the Burnley School of Professional Art in Seattle. He is a member of the Northwest Figurative Artists Alliance, and his work is included in public and private collections. This month, his painting of Whitestone Rock on Lake Roosevelt was installed in the Washington governor's mansion.
McGaughey, who also serves as director of the Lake Chelan Museum, said the exhibition highlights the butte's beauty and importance to the community.
"The show presents the allure of the butte as a visual landmark and asset to our community," McGaughey said in an email. "Perhaps we can keep it beautiful."
