Bethel: Bond's too much for senior citizens
My wife and I moved into the Bethel School District approximately 20 years ago to get away from the traffic and crime of Tacoma. We have supported all school levies that were on the ballots for school improvements.
We are strong supporters of the youth in our area and have been involved for many years in the development of their minds and bodies. But this last bond measure, for $236.7 million - with all its unnecessary bells and whistles not needed for good education - will be more than we can handle on our fixed incomes.
As we already pay well over $1,000 in school taxes per year, we have reached our limit. This latest tax measure doesn’t even tell us how much more we will be required to pay. I couldn’t find any information on the brochure enclosed with the ballot, so this time we must say as they do on TV’s “Shark Tank”: “We’re out” and will vote no on this latest budget-busting ballot measure, as I think most senior citizens will.
