Indiana Fever Make Sophie Cunningham Decision Before WNBA Season

The Indiana Fever added Sophie Cunningham ahead of the 2025 season, acquiring the veteran guard from the Phoenix Mercury. She wasted no time making her mark, and brought toughness, perimeter shooting, and defensive intensity to the backcourt.

In her first season with Indiana, Cunningham appeared in 30 games and made 13 starts, averaging 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 46.9% from the field and 43.2% from three-point range. Her presence provided stability for a young roster throughout the year.

Her season, however, ended prematurely. In mid-August, Cunningham suffered a torn MCL in her right knee, and the Fever ruled her out for the remainder of the 2025 campaign.

The 29-year-old guard entered the offseason as a free agent but ultimately re-signed with Indiana on a one-year deal. As Cunningham prepares for training camp and her eighth WNBA season, IndyStarSports' Chloe Peterson reported Sunday that the Fever have officially cleared her and fellow guard Tyasha Harris from their injuries.

This is good news for Fever fans as the team enters camp at full strength. Caitlin Clarkconfirmed she is already healthy and ready, while Aliyah Boston has also indicated she is "good to go" following her leg injury at Unrivaled.

Despite multiple injury setbacks last season, Indiana made a surprising run to the playoff semifinals. With a fully healthy roster heading into the new campaign, expectations in Indianapolis have risen.

Both the organization and its fan base believe the team has the pieces to contend for a championship. Training camp begins Sunday, and the regular season tips off May 9 at home against the Dallas Wings.
