Rajon Rondo Opens Up About Potential NBA Head Coaching Future
During his 16-year playing career across nine teams, there were few floor generals better than Rajon Rondo.
Rondo last played during the 2021–22 season but officially announced his retirement in 2024. He quickly transitioned into coaching, beginning as a guest coach on Doc Rivers' staff with the Milwaukee Bucks.
He already secured a head coaching interview since the regular season concluded, meeting with the New Orleans Pelicans, who reportedly view him as a strong candidate despite his lack of formal coaching experience.

That said, Rondo's extensive experience as a player - including multiple championships and time under some of the game's top coaches - could make him an intriguing option on the sidelines, and he appears more than ready for the challenge.
"I know I can do it - it's about having the right people around you," Rondo said, via Eric Nehm of The Athletic. "I've had a lot of great mentors, a lot of people rooting for me. I definitely think I'll be ready to go.

Whether the New Orleans Pelicans ultimately give Rajon Rondo serious consideration in this coaching search or not, he is likely to remain a prominent name to watch as more opportunities emerge.
Rondo, now 40, placed a strong emphasis on player development during his time with the Bucks. One notable example is point guard Rollins, whose growth was particularly impressive this season.
Rollins increased his scoring average from 6.2 points per game last year to 17.5 this year, with Rondo playing a significant role in that development while serving as a constant voice in his ear.
