Rory McIlroy Reveals Interesting Plan for Next Year's Masters
Rory McIlroy may be busy with preparations for the Truist Championship this week. However, the PGA Tour star's plans for next year's Champions Dinner have already emerged. The golfer revealed a possible menu on his birthday.
While the episode of Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce's podcast New Heights was released on Wednesday, McIlroy mentioned the segment was shot on 3rd May. The trio discussed how it took the golfer 11 years to win his next Major, while he has now won the Green Jacket back-to-back.
Speaking of the Masters, the brothers asked McIlroy about his menu for this year's Champions Dinner. "Did you catch any (expletive) for the menu?", asked Travis. The golfer recalled how he was criticized for making the menu less Irish and responded to the media by saying, "I wanna enjoy the dinner as well".
Both brothers had a laugh over his response. However, Rory then claimed everyone enjoyed the dinner. "I tried to do enough dishes that would please everyone. And I'm a big wine guy. I collect wine. And I have done for like the last 10 years. The wine selection was something very important for me", he said.
The 6-time Major winner then revealed his plans for next year. McIlroy admitted going "pretty fancy" when hosting the dinner earlier this year. He then added, "It's always on a Tuesday night so I was like I can just do a Taco Tuesday". Rory reiterated that the menu is still not confirmed as his confusion persists.
Tacos on the table at the Champions Dinner would be quite rare. While Rory's menu wasn't 100% Irish this year, some of it did include dishes very close to his roots. Bacon-wrapped dates, which were served as an appetizer, were inspired by his mother's kitchen. For the main course, McIlroy provided options of Wagyu filet mignon or seared salmon, both of which included traditional Irish champ.
The 32-year-old paid further homage to his roots by serving sticky toffee pudding as the dessert. With a more traditional approach already seen during his first time as a host, it's fair to say McIlroy may look to experiment for his second Champions Dinner.
Over the years, different types of dishes have been served for Green Jacket winners. It will be interesting to see if Rory eventually settles on his Taco Tuesday idea.
