Miami Flips Top 5-Star Recruit From Georgia
The Miami Hurricanes currently have the 10th-ranked 2027 recruiting class, and it got a big boost with a major commitment on Saturday.
According to Rivals, five-star cornerback Donte Wright flipped his commitment from the Georgia Bulldogs to the Hurricanes after visiting the team back in the spring.
Wright, the No. 1-ranked player in California, No. 2-ranked cornerback, and No. 10 overall recruit in the class of 2027, had been committed to UGA for nearly a year. He was also pursued by Oregon and UCLA before flipping to Miami.
"I have a great relationship with Miami," Wright told Rivals back in April. "I'd say Miami is at the top with some others. I have a strong relationship with coach (Mario) Cristobal and the DB coaches like Will Harris and [Terry Jefferson].
"In the beginning when they started recruiting me, I've been a fan of Miami but it was also about how far I wanted to leave home. Going there and getting to see it's not too far and having a good relationship, they built a strong relationship for sure."
Wright is now the headliner of Miami's 2027 recruiting class, which also features four-star quarterback Israel Abrams, four-star receiver Nick Lennear, four-star safety Jaylyn Jones, and four-star offensive tackle Sean Tatum.
Wright joins a talented and young Hurricanes secondary that also boasts 2025 four-star CBs Camdin Portis and Jaelen Waters.
Miami lost cornerbacks Keionte Scott (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), James Brockermeyer (Atlanta Falcons), and Damari Brown (Detroit Lions), plus safety Jakobe Thomas (Minnesota Vikings) to the NFL, so Wright's commitment couldn't have come at a better time.
