Stephanie White Comments on Kelsey Mitchell After Indiana Fever Loss
The Indiana Fevermay have lost to the Dallas Wings in their season opener on Saturday, but head coach Stephanie White liked what she saw from Kelsey Mitchell.
While Mitchell missed a 3-pointer that would have tied the game in the final second, she still came up big for Indiana and was a big reason the Fever were able to compete in the contest. She finished with 30 points on 11-of-22 shooting, along with three rebounds and four assists.
Mitchell also rested for only a minute in the second quarter, highlighting how she went all-out for Indiana.
After the game, White was full of praise for Mitchell, particularly noting how she utilized her speed to punish defenders and score. The Fever head coach also took notice of how Mitchell made plays and fought for rebounds.
"She's special, and she's fast. Nobody can stay in front of her," White told reporters, according to Joshua Heron of Indianapolis Star. "I'm pleased with not just the 30 points, but the four assists and three rebounds. She's gonna find her spots and work in her, (Aliyah Boston) and (Caitlin) Clark together. It's gonna be a journey as we get them back on the floor together."
Mitchell certainly picked up where she left off last season, showing everyone that she's still the same elite guard and MVP candidate that carried Indiana to the 2025 WNBA semifinals.
While it's not the start that the Fever would have wanted, the fact that Mitchell continues to play at a high level in the return of Caitlin Clark should raise optimism about the team's season.
