WNBA Accused Of Snubbing Caitlin Clark For Eastern Conference Player of the Week

The WNBA announced its conference player of the week awards on Tuesday and fans quickly declared that Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark has been snubbed.

In the Western Conference, reigning MVP A'ja Wilson got the honor with an average of 25 points, 5.6 rebounds and two blocks per game last week. More controversially, the Eastern Conference honor went to New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart, who averaged 23 points, nine rebounds and two blocks per game.

"New York Liberty forward Breanna Stewart and Las Vegas Aces center A'ja Wilson have been named the WNBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for Week 1 of the 2026 season," the WNBA announced yesterday.

The Clark Fans Retaliate

WNBA fans were quick to point out that Clark performed better than Stewart in several facets of the game, averaging 24.3 points, nine assists and five rebounds per game. They accused the league of being biased against Clark by not giving her the award:

"Really? You had a player that made WNBA history and averaged 25/9/5 (BEST stats in the EASTERN Conference) all in the same week and that player, with a team record which was 1 less win than New York is not good enough for Player of the Week?" one user asked.

"Exactly why no one cared about WNBA prior to Caitlin Clark. Same old crap. WNBA is prejudice and bias. No offense meant to Wilson or Stewart," wrote another.

"Stewie over Caitlin Clark for Eastern Conference Player of the Week… Caitlin: 24.3 ppg, 9.0 apg, 5.0 rpg. Stewie: 23.0 ppg, 2.8 apg, 9.0 rpg. Yep, they aren't biased at all, right??" a third wrote.

This isn't some new thing to the WNBA though. Sports leagues don't always give the player of the week honor to whoever has the highest numbers. If it were, the NFL would always give out its player of the week award to whichever quarterback threw for the most yards.

Clark is clearly having a superb season though and seems to be looking better with each game that goes by. If she keeps it up, the accolades will come, no matter how much or little bias there is among the voters.
