Deker Bartell named league baseball MVP

Teammate Tucker Morrow (utility), as well as R.A. Long's Riley Young (infield) and Jeff Rooklidge (designated hitter) and Woodland's Mike Belvin (pitcher) all earned first-team honors.

Mark Morris baseball: Deker Bartell

Mark Morris' Deker Bartell takes a swing against R.A. Long on Friday, April 17, at David Story Field. Bartell was named the 2A Greater St. Helens League MVP.

Rooklidge had 34 hits and 22 RBIs with a double while batting .430. Young notched 30 hits, including five doubles, three triples and four home runs to go with 17 RBIs. The senior also allowed only four earned runs and struck out 38 batters while recording a 0.72 ERA in 39 innings on the mound.

Belvin had 63 strikeouts in just 35 total innings on the mound for the Beavers.

Mark Morris' Reilly O'Farrell (infield) and Carter Schmit (infield) as well as R.A. Long's Jonah Cadigan (pitcher) and Woodland's Joey Peonio (infield) were named to the second team.

R.A. Long baseball: Riley Young

R.A. Long's Riley Young throws a pitch during the District 4 2A Baseball Tournament consolation semifinals against Aberdeen on Saturday, May 16, at W.F. West High School in Chehalis. Young was named to the 2A Greater St. Helens League all-league first team.

Cadigan pitched for 44 2/3 innings, with 56 strikeouts while surrendering just 10 earned runs and finishing the season with a 1.57 ERA. O'Farrell finished with 22 hits and 10 RBIs with three doubles.

In addition, Mark Morris' Sam Bentson (pitcher) and R.A. Long's Presley Havens (outfield) and Kamble Johns (infield) were tabbed as honorable mentions by their respective coaches.

Johns had 19 hits and 11 RBIs with four doubles. Havens tallied 18 hits and four RBIs with three doubles.

Woodland baseball: Mike Belvin

Woodland's Mike Belvin throws a pitch during a baseball game against Hudson's Bay on Friday, April 24, at Woodland High School. Belvin was named to the 2A Greater St. Helens League all-league first team.

Mark Morris and R.A. Long finished in a tie for second place in the 2A GSHL while Woodland placed sixth. All three teams were eliminated in the district tournament.
