Wings Announce Exciting Azzi Fudd News Before Aces Game

For the second year in a row, the Dallas Wings took a former UConn Huskies star with the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA draft.

Following last year, which saw them take eventual Rookie of the Year Paige Bueckers, the Wings drafted her former running mate, Azzi Fudd, with the top pick in this year's draft. While Bueckers is known for being a pure scorer, Fudd is renowned for being one of the best shooters in the sport.

Despite her shooting prowess, Wings coach Jose Fernandez has eased her into the WNBA, allowing Fudd to get her feet wet before relying on her to be a key part of the offense.

However, coming off the best game of her young career on Sunday, which saw her drop 24 points with six threes in a win over the New York Liberty, Fudd is seemingly set to take the next step.

As announced by Fernandez to the media ahead of Thursday's game against the Las Vegas Aces, Fudd is set to make her first career start. The cherry on top of the announcement was the fact that Fernandez was planning to start Fudd regardless of the team's injury issues, as multiple players are set to miss some time.

"Azzi was going to start regardless today," Fernandez said. "So, if everybody was healthy our starting lineup was going to be P (Paige Bueckers), Azzi, Arike (Ogunbowale), Lan and Jess (Sheppard)."

Fudd's first start of her career will be at 8:00 p.m. ET in a game that will air on Prime Video.

Through six games of action, Fudd is averaging 11 points, 1.2 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.2 steals per game, while shooting 56.3% from the field and 43.5% from deep.
