Mitch Johnson Praises Victor Wembanyama After Game 6 Win
The San Antonio Spurs staved off elimination with a Game 6 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder to stay alive in the Western Conference Finals.
Head coach Mitch Johnson heaped praise on star big man Victor Wembanyama, who finished the game with 28 points and 10 rebounds to spark the 118-91 victory.
“He’s not always perfect, and we’ve got to get him help at times,” Spurs coach Mitch Johnson said of Wembanyama. “Obviously he’s 22 years old. But his passion and desire for being right where he is, at the forefront of it all, to take the responsibility, the role and the burden of what he does, I don’t know what else to say.”

“He is comfortable with that regardless of the outcome and what that may look like. That’s maybe his biggest growth this year: not waiting for it to be perfect or to necessarily know what to do all the time, but attack the moment, have the right approach and live with the results,” he added.
The strong performance from Wembanyama came just two days after arguably the worst playoff game of his young career when he finished with 20 points – 12 of which came from free throws. After the game he walked out of the arena without speaking to reporters, which earned the Spurs star a warning from the NBA.
Two days later, he led the Spurs to victory and forced a Game 7.
