Ohio State Highway Patrol stated that the accident occurred at around 5:28 p.m. on Friday. Moran's vehicle was reportedly traveling eastbound when it struck the rear of a GMC Arcadia. Her vehicle then crossed the centerline into the path of a westbound Jeep Grand Cherokee. The collision ejected her from the vehicle and perished.
The GMC Arcadia's 19-year-old driver was treated at the scene for injuries. The Jeep's 23-year-old driver sustained minor injuries and had to go to the hospital later.
An investigation is reportedly ongoing.
Moran was pursuing a degree in health sciences and posted the sixth-best pole vault in school history at 3.57 meters at the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships. She placed third at the GVSU Big Meet in February and fourth at the 56th Annual GINA Relays in April.
Our hearts go out to Moran's family and loved ones.
