Magic's Chances of Landing Giannis Antetokounmpo Doused in Cold Water

As the trade rumors pick up involving Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, one intriguing team has been the Orlando Magic.

The Magic are fresh off another playoff trip, although it ended with a first-round exit after Orlando blew a 3-1 lead to the Detroit Pistons.

Over the past few months, the Magic have been a team linked to a trade for Antetokounmpo.

However, things might have changed ever since Sean Sweeney was hired as the new head coach. According to Kurt Helin of NBC Sports, the sense is that the Magic will let Sweeney try out the Franz Wagner-Paolo Banchero duo instead of blowing it up to acquire Antetokounmpo.

"The Magic are expected to let new coach Sean Sweeney try to figure out the Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner puzzle rather than blow it up for Antetokounmpo or anyone else, league sources told NBC Sports. However, if they decide to get in the mix, they can put together an impressive offer," Helin wrote.

The last sentence is worth noting: If they get in the mix. Right now, it doesn't seem likely, but if the Magic decide to make a run, the package could be intriguing for the Bucks.

Bucks Hoping For Clarity From Magic

The 2026 NBA Draft has long been viewed as an unofficial deadline for a trade to get done involving Antetokounmpo.

And, on that note, the Bucks are reportedly hoping for clarity involving some teams that were interested in a deal, according to Sam Amick and Eric Nehm of The Athletic.

"Per league and team sources, the Bucks appear to be seeking clarity from several suitors as to what they would actually be willing to offer before making a final decision. The Boston Celtics, Minnesota Timberwolves and Orlando Magic, the sources say, are known to be among them."

Reports have also stated that the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics figure to be big players in an Antetokounmpo trade, so the Magic pulling out and trying to run it back with the current core is a very realistic scenario.
