Blue Jays Announce Daulton Varsho News Amid Yankees Series

The Toronto Blue Jays have been marred by injuries this season. The latest casualty was outfielder Daulton Varsho, who was put on the 10-day injured list with wrist inflammation retroactive to June 10.

Up to that point, the 29-year-old had played in 64 games. He posted a .256/.331/.408 slash line with a .739 OPS, as well as five home runs and 17 RBIs.

Varsho was one of Toronto's only outfielders to stay healthy throughout the season, as players like Addison Barger and Nathan Lukes missed time with injury.

Entering play on Saturday, the Blue Jays are 34-36. While they continue to get help off the injured list, they would like Varsho's absence to be as quick as possible.

The wrist injury was something that was bothering the outfielder up until the injured list move. He received a cortisone injection on Friday, and now the club is making plans for his ramp-up next week.

Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reported of Toronto's intention to have Varsho resume activities on Tuesday.

The original roster move to put Varsho on the shelf was to call up utility Davis Schneider, a fan favorite in Toronto. He played left field during Friday's contest against the New York Yankees, while Myles Straw took over in center field.

During Varsho's absence, Straw and Lukes have been patrolling center field. Their defense is acceptable, but it's Varsho's bat that will be missed during the next couple of weeks.

While the hitting hasn't been quite his best, it's possible that the wrist injury was hampering him a little bit. 2025 was a career year for Varsho, as he slugged .548 with 20 home runs in just 71 games.

The 29-year-old is eligible to return from the injured list on Saturday, June 20, during the Blue Jays' series at Wrigley Field with the Cubs.

With Lukes already back and Barger nearing a rehab assignment, the Toronto outfield is on track to be healthy very soon.
