Mariners Share Injury Updates on Two All-Star Players
The Seattle Mariners have provided injury updates on Josh Naylor and Andrés Muñoz after both players exited Sunday's 10-1 loss to the Washington Nationals. Mariners beat reporter Daniel Kramer posted on X that manager Dan Wilson said Naylor underwent X-rays on his right shin, and the results came back negative.
Wilson also said Muñoz left the game with lower back tightness, with both players currently being managed on a day-to-day basis. The injuries added to what has been a difficult road trip for Seattle. They finished the trip with a 4-6 record and returned home at 37-36 after dropping the series finale in Washington.
Naylor suffered his injury in the top of the sixth inning. Facing Nationals right-hander Miles Mikolas, he fouled a pitch off his right shin and immediately showed signs of pain. He struggled to put weight on his leg and eventually dropped to all fours near home plate.
Seattle's training staff quickly came out to evaluate him. After a lengthy discussion, Naylor remained in the game long enough to finish the at-bat. He lined out to center field for the second out of the inning, the Mariners then took him out before the bottom half of the sixth.

• Josh Naylor underwent X-rays that came back negative.
• Andrés Muñoz exited with lower back tightness.
Patrick Wisdom entered as a defensive replacement. Wilson later confirmed that the club decided to remove Naylor as a precaution following the negative X-ray results.
The 28-year-old has played a major role in Seattle's lineup this season. He entered Sunday hitting .286 with 12 home runs, 63 RBIs, and an OPS above .800. The first baseman also earned his first All-Star selection this year and has provided consistent production in the middle of the Mariners' order.
While Naylor dealt with the shin injury, Seattle encountered another concern later in the game. Muñoz entered in the eighth inning for his first appearance in six days.
The All-Star closer faced only two batters before discomfort forced him to leave the mound. After speaking with trainers, Muñoz exited the game and did not return. Wilson said the right-hander experienced lower back tightness shortly after taking the mound.
The injury immediately raised concern because Muñoz dealt with similar back issues during the 2024 season. He pitched through discomfort at times but avoided a trip to the injured list.
The 27-year-old is one of the most important pitchers on Seattle's roster. He entered Sunday's game with a 2.08 ERA, 18 saves, and 37 strikeouts in 30.1 innings. He earned his first All-Star selection thanks to his strong performance at the back end of the bullpen.
Seattle can ill afford to lose either player for an extended period. They have battled several injury issues throughout the season and looked short-handed during parts of the road trip.
Wilson acknowledged after the game that injuries and lineup changes affected the club's consistency during the trip. The Mariners will continue to monitor both Naylor and Muñoz as they await further evaluation.
