Magic Johnson Sends Message to Knicks After Championship Victory
The New York Knicks took down the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Saturday night, securing the franchise’s first NBA title since 1973.
The Knicks cruised through the 2026 NBA playoffs, going 16-3 with a +283 point differential. They notched back-to-back series sweeps over the Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers before taking down Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs in five games.
NBA legend Magic Johnson sent a message of congratulations to the Knicks following their championship victory.
“Congratulations to all of the @nyknicks players on winning an NBA World Championship! A special shoutout to the Knicks starting five: Finals MVP Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges, and Josh Hart,” Johnson wrote on social media.

Johnson went on to give a special shoutout to Josh Hart, who began his NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2017.
“Btw, Josh is one of the players I drafted in the first round when I was President of the Lakers, and he’s one of my favorite players because of how he impacts winning without having to score a point!” Johnson added.

Jalen Brunson earned Finals MVP honors after averaging 32.6 points per game in the championship series. The All-Star point guard closed out the series with a masterful performance, scoring a series-high 45 points in Game 5.
Hart recorded a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double in Game 5, continuing his role as an all-around player for the Knicks. He averaged 7.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.4 steals per game in the NBA Finals.
