Tom Aspinall Accepts Ciryl Gane's Challenge for Title Unification in Paris This September

UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall tuned into the UFC Freedom 250 card, keeping a close eye on the co-main event as his former opponent Ciryl Gane defeated Alex Pereira for the interim heavyweight belt. In a YouTube video of Tom Aspinall watching and reacting to White House card, the heavyweight champion has verbally agreed to step into enemy territory and face Ciryl Gane in Paris this September, responding directly to the Frenchman's callout after defeating Pereira.

The reigning heavyweight champion watched Gane outclass Alex Pereira at heavyweight to win the interim title and immediately signaled his willingness to unify the belts on Gane's home turf.

Aspinall confirmed his decision in the video, stating, "Paris in September, eh? I'll do that."

He added, "You're up for it? I'll do that. Let me know. I don't mind. I'll go to Paris. I'll be there."

The matchup comes after the first fight between the pair at UFC 321 ended in a disappointing no-contest due to a fight-ending eye-poke from Gane. That foul led to multiple surgeries for Aspinall, who has been sidelined ever since, but he is now cleared to return to training.

Gane's Rule-Bending Reputation

Despite being impressed, Aspinall was quick to also criticize Gane's heavy ground-and-pound shots to Pereira, many of which seemed to land on the back of Pereira's head, which is illegal in MMA.

"Ooh, they look a bit illegal," Aspinall commented after Gane followed up with hammer fists soon after he dropped Pereira with a jab. "They look very illegal."

He made another comment after the finish, saying, "I'll have to watch that again. It looked like there were a lot of illegal elbows going on, and illegal punches. But generally, it looked good."

Night Belongs to Ciryl Gane

Gane's performance at the historic White House event was nothing short of spectacular, as he stopped Pereira in the second round to claim the interim heavyweight title for a second time in his career:

The victory prevented Pereira from becoming the first three-division champion in UFC history and firmly cemented Gane as the division's top contender once again.

Following the win, Gane immediately called for the rematch, knowing that a unification bout with Aspinall is the only logical next step:

The UFC is scheduled to return to the Accor Arena in Paris on September 5, 2026, though the event has not yet been upgraded from a Fight Night to a numbered pay-per-view card . However, with the promotion's history of shifting shows and the magnitude of this title unification bout, a change is widely expected.

For Gane, this represents his fourth shot at the undisputed heavyweight title, and he appears to be entering the matchup with newfound momentum after handling the legendary power of Pereira.

Aspinall, meanwhile, is determined to show that the previous result was an anomaly and that he remains the true king of the heavyweight division.

The dynamic of the fight will be fascinating, as Aspinall will be walking into a hostile environment against a dangerous interim champion who has already beaten the best the division has to offer.

Aspinall's quick and confident acceptance suggests he is healthy and ready to prove his dominance, regardless of the location or the opponent.
