NFC Team Named Most Obvious Brendan Sorsby Landing Spot
The NFL world took a giant turn when the Texas Tech Red Raiders and quarterback Brendan Sorsby mutually agreed to part ways.
Sorsby was granted an injunction that allowed him to play after he was initially ruled ineligible due to gambling on his own team while he was playing for the Indiana Hoosiers.
However, after much backlash and the Big 12 Conference making an attempt to use its own bylaws to punish Sorsby, Texas Tech and the star quarterback decided to move on.
Sorsby is now headed for the NFL Supplemental Draft this summer, and the last player selected in the draft was Arizona Cardinals safety Jalen Thompson in 2019.
Sorsby should definitely draw interest from the NFL, and ESPN draft analyst Ben Solak named the Arizona Cardinals as the "most obvious choice" for Sorsby.
"The Cardinals are the most obvious choice, as they don't have an exciting starting option on their roster. Veterans Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew II are known backup types, while third-round rookie Carson Beck doesn't project as a high-end starter. Sorsby would easily clear Beck as the potential franchise passer. However, the Cardinals might not wish to spend any 2027 capital as they gear up for a bigger swing in the upcoming draft," Solak wrote.
The Cardinals QB position is a giant toss-up, and ESPN's Matt Miller wrote in the same piece that Sorsby would've been viewed as the QB2 if he were in the 2026 NFL Draft class.
How Does the Supplemental Draft Work?
The Supplemental Draft is going to take place sometime in July, and here's a rundown of how it works.
The league holds a "weighted lottery to determine the order of the supplemental draft," with the Las Vegas Raiders having the highest odds and the Seattle Seahawks having the lowest odds.
Teams can then submit a bid using a round draft choice value. For example, if the Cardinals want him, they can submit a bid using any round they please.
Whichever team submits the highest bid, by draft round, lands Sorsby. In turn, that team would forfeit that draft choice for the 2027 NFL Draft.
Since 1977, a total of 46 players have been selected in the NFL Supplemental Draft, and Sorsby figures to be the 47th player selected.
