Caleb Williams, Bears Get New Wide Receiver on Tuesday

The Chicago Bears continue to make moves around quarterback Caleb Williams as they prepare for what could be one of the most important seasons in recent franchise history.

After a fairly unusual offseason, which did not see a ton of player movement, the Bears are still searching for ways to improve depth across the roster before training camp begins. Every addition makes a difference as Chicago looks to build a contender around Williams, who enters his third NFL season as the unquestioned face of the franchise.

On Tuesday, the Bears announced another round of roster moves, adding wide receiver Kaden Davis and linebacker Tony Fields II. To make room, Chicago waived safety Dominique Hampton and offensive lineman Gabriel Plascencia.

While neither signing is expected to dominate national headlines, the addition of another receiver gives Williams one more target to work with as the Bears continue evaluating their roster ahead of the 2026 season.

Bears Give Caleb Williams Another Receiving Option

Davis arrives in Chicago after taking one of the more unconventional paths in professional football.

The 27-year-old receiver starred at Northwest Missouri State after beginning his college career at Butler Community College. Despite productive college seasons, Davis went undrafted in 2022 and has spent the past several years fighting for opportunities across both the NFL and spring football leagues.

His professional stops have included the Denver Broncos, Arizona Cardinals, Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns.

Most recently, Davis played for the Houston Gamblers of the UFL, where he continued to showcase the speed and versatility that have kept him on NFL radars.

At 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, Davis offers value both as a receiver and return specialist. His ability to contribute on special teams could ultimately help his chances of sticking on Chicago's roster.

Kaden Davis Has Made A Career Of Beating The Odds

Perhaps the most impressive part of Davis' story is how many obstacles he has overcome to keep his NFL dream alive.

Coming out of high school in Kansas, Davis received no Division I scholarship offers despite producing 857 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns as a senior.

Instead of giving up, he attended Butler Community College before earning a scholarship to Northwest Missouri State, where he developed into an All-Conference receiver.

That perseverance has continued throughout his professional career.

Even after bouncing between NFL practice squads and alternate leagues, Davis has repeatedly found his way back into professional opportunities.

Now he'll get another chance with a Bears team looking for hidden gems capable of contributing around Williams.

Chicago Also Adds Former NFL Draft Pick

The Bears' other addition may have an even stronger NFL resume.

Tony Fields II was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft after starring at Arizona and West Virginia.

The linebacker appeared in multiple seasons with Cleveland before spending time with the Los Angeles Rams organization.

After joining the Columbus Aviators of the UFL earlier this year, Fields enjoyed a breakout campaign and earned All-UFL honors in 2026. His strong play quickly attracted NFL attention, and Chicago moved quickly to bring him aboard. Fields has recorded 88 tackles, two defensive touchdowns, one interception and one forced fumble during his NFL career.

Bears Continue Building Around Their Franchise Quarterback

Every move the Bears make this offseason will inevitably be viewed through the lens of Caleb Williams. Chicago has invested heavily in surrounding its young quarterback with as much talent, competition and depth as possible.

That process doesn't stop with blockbuster additions. Players like Davis and Fields represent the type of under-the-radar moves that often become important throughout a long NFL season.

Whether Davis ultimately earns a roster spot remains to be seen, but he now has an opportunity to prove himself in front of a Bears coaching staff looking for playmakers. For Williams and Chicago, Tuesday's moves were the latest reminder that roster building never stops.

And with expectations rising across the organization, every addition matters.
