Makenzie Henthorn named TDN All-Area softball player of the year

With a state champion crowned and multiple district and league titles won, it was a great year for high school softball in Cowlitz, Wahkiakum, and Columbia counties. Here is the TDN All-Area softball team.

Player of the Year

Makenzie Henthorn - Mark Morris

After two straight seasons of being named TDN's pitcher of the year, Makenzie Henthorn has been selected as TDN's player of the year.

The Mark Morris graduate had an outstanding season, striking out 267 batters and giving away only 34 hits and 10 earned runs in 125 1/3 innings while recording an astounding 0.56 ERA. She tossed four no-hitters during the season.

She also did not surrender any earned runs in league play and led the Monarchs to 16-straight shutouts. In addition, Henthorn recorded 25 hits and 28 RBIs with six doubles, two triples, and five home runs at the plate this year. The back-to-back 2A Greater St. Helens League MVP helped the Monarchs finish 24-1 overall and win the league, district, and state championships.

Pitcher of the Year

Kylie Killett - Kelso

Killett is TDN's pitcher of the year after she struck out 148 batters and gave up 47 earned runs in 120 innings of work in the circle this season, good for an ERA of 2.74. She also had 11 hits and 12 RBIs with two doubles and one home run at the plate.

She led the Lassies to a 16-9 overall record with a 7-1 mark in 3A Greater St. Helens League play. Kelso shared the league title with Prairie, won the district championship, and claimed a victory at state.

First Team

Kailanah Hagdahl-Daniel - Kelso

Hagdahl-Daniel totaled 28 hits and 27 RBIs with four doubles and seven home runs while batting 0.418. She also stole 13 bases for the Lassies.

Paisley Fraidenburg - Mark Morris

Fraidenburg was a force at the plate for Mark Morris, totaling 47 hits, with 10 doubles, five triples, and five home runs, and 35 RBIs. She batted 0.566 and only committed one error in the field in 268 total chances at catcher. The rising junior also stole 14 bases.

Shyanne Sellers - Mark Morris

Who can forget what Sellers did for this club? The rising senior hit the walk-off grand slam to win the state title for the Monarchs. She finished the season with 36 hits, including 11 doubles, five triples, and four home runs, and 40 RBIs while batting 0.529.

Megan Fugleberg - Mark Morris

Fugleberg played a big role for the champion Monarchs. The Mark Morris graduate tallied 34 hits and 26 RBIs with 11 doubles, one triple, and six home runs while batting 0.447.

Taylor Lee - Mark Morris

Lee had a fantastic first season for Mark Morris. The incoming sophomore registered 38 hits and 36 RBIs with 10 doubles, three triples, and five home runs while recording a 0.576 batting average.

Keira McGinley - Mark Morris

McGinley totaled 32 hits and 31 RBIs with seven doubles, three triples, and six home runs while batting 0.500.

Jolie Oathes - Woodland

Oathes tallied 31 hits and 32 RBIs with seven doubles, one triple, and seven home runs while batting 0.443. She led Woodland to a 12-11 overall record with an 8-6 mark in the 2A GSHL, good for fourth place.

Addi Christensen - Woodland

Christensen recorded 34 hits and 38 RBIs with 14 doubles, one triple, and three home runs while batting 0.447. The Woodland graduate also pitched for 84 1/3 innings and struck out 67 batters.

Emma Barrow - Woodland

Barrow totaled 35 hits and 28 RBIs with six doubles and four home runs while batting 0.407.

Katelynne Jones - Kalama

Jones recorded 32 hits, including eight doubles, one home run, and 17 RBIs while batting 0.457. She also stole 19 bases and struck out 100 batters and while giving away 45 earned runs in 110 innings of work in the circle, finishing with a 2.86 ERA.

Jones led Kalama to a 12-7 overall record with a 10-4 mark in the 1A Trico League, finishing in a tie for second place.

Ada Schlangen - Kalama

Schlangen totaled 37 hits and 23 RBIs with eight doubles, one triple, and one home run while batting 0.521.

Jordyn Casi - Toutle Lake

Casi recorded 40 hits, including 10 doubles, four triples, and two home runs, and 23 RBIs. She batted 0.506 and led the Ducks to a 14-7 overall record.

Joey Sizemore - Clatskanie

Clatskanie softball: Joey Sizemore

Clatskanie's Joey Sizemore throws a pitch during the second round of the OSAA 2A/1A Softball State Championship tournament against Monroe/Alsea on Wednesday, May 27, at Clatskanie High School. Sizemore was named to the TDN All-Area first team.

Sizemore recorded 41 hits, with 15 doubles, four triples, and six home runs, and 49 RBIs while batting 0.594. She also pitched for 92 1/3 innings, generating 140 strikeouts. The Clatskanie graduate led the Tigers to a 19-9 overall record. They claimed the league title and advanced the state semifinals.

Olivia George - Clatskanie

George tallied 40 hits and 47 RBIs with eight doubles, two triples, and seven home runs while stealing 15 bases. She batted 0.571 and struck out 40 batters in 54 1/3 innings of action in the circle.

McKinsey Doyle - Clatskanie

Doyle totaled 52 hits, with seven doubles and one triple, and 23 RBIs while batting 0.525. She also stole 24 bases.

Second Team

Avery Mackin - Kelso

Mackin had 31 hits and 25 RBIs with eight doubles and one triple while batting 0.419.

Karmynn Petrisor - Kelso

Petrisor notched 25 hits and 16 RBIs with three doubles and five home runs while batting 0.368.

Brooke Hefley - Kelso

Hefley tallied 25 hits and 29 RBIs with three doubles, two triples, and three home runs while batting 0.342.

Edie Korpi - R.A. Long

R.A. Long softball: Edie Korpi

R.A. Long's Edie Korpi throws a pitch during a softball game against Hockinson on Friday, May 8, at Woodland High School. Korpi hit a grand slam and struck out 14 batters to lead the Jills to victory. Korpi was selected to the TDN All-Area second team.

Korpi tallied 20 hits and nine RBIs wit three doubles and one home run while batting 0.323. She also struck out 64 batters in 50 2/3 innings of work in the circle.

Korpi hit a grand slam to help the Jills beat Hockinson and earn the No. 5 seed in the 2A GSHL. It was the first and only home run of her high school career.

Alabama Hawes - Woodland

Hawes recorded 33 hits, with one double and two triples, and 28 RBIs while batting 0.407.

Lexi Manalili - Woodland

Manalili hit 0.426 while tallying 29 hits and 26 RBIs with eight doubles, three triples, and five home runs.

Colbie Manninen - Kalama

Manninen recorded 35 hits, including four doubles, two triples, and two home runs, and 23 RBIs while batting 0.493. She also stole 16 bases.

Elysia Wuollet - Kalama

Wuollet recorded 27 hits and 28 RBIs with five doubles, two triples, and two home runs while batting 0.474. She also stole 14 bases.

Violet Rich - Kalama

Rich contributed 31 hits and 19 RBIs with 12 doubles, one triple, and one home run while batting 0.477.

Lily Kerker - Castle Rock

Kerker hit 0.578 while recording 25 hits and 21 RBIs with six doubles and three triples for the Rockets. She also stole 20 bases.

Karly Opsahl - Toutle Lake

Opsahl tallied 38 hits and 38 RBIs with eight doubles, three triples, and one home run while batting 0.528. She also stole 13 bases.

Lennox Casi - Toutle Lake

Casi recorded 27 hits and 23 RBIs with three doubles, one triple, and four home runs while batting 0.409.

Kinley King - Toutle Lake

King totaled 31 hits and 24 RBIs with five doubles and three triples while batting 0.456. She also stole 10 bases.

Evy Hogue - Wahkiakum

Hogue recorded 14 hits and 16 RBIs with nine doubles, one triple, and two home runs in just 14 games for the Mules - much less than other teams - while batting 0.389. Hogue helped Wahkiakum earn a spot in the state tournament.

Maddi Twitchell - Rainier

Twichell recorded 29 hits and 29 RBIs with four doubles, five triples, and three home runs while batting 0.397 for the Columbians.
