Evergreen Lutheran girls fall in 1B third-place game
Sunnyside Christian used a 14-3 run to start the second quarter and cruised to a 61-35 victory over Evergreen Lutheran and third place in the 1B girls Saturday at Spokane Arena.
Emily Banks and Sailor Liefke fueled the run with two baskets apiece as Sunnyside Christian (25-1) grabbed a 28-11 advantage with 3:33 remaining before halftime.
The Eagles (21-4) placed fifth — their best finish at a state tournament since taking home third in 2007.
“Just a phenomenal season,” Evergreen Lutheran coach Nick Trebesch said.
Emily Holder led Evergreen Lutheran with 21 points in her final game — six coming in the first quarter.
“Emily played great today,” Trebesch said. “We needed things to happen on the perimeter, and got a little bit clicking in the second half. By them it was too little, too late.”
Katelyn Schwartz added eight points, and Jessie Holder had six points.
