Where can I find?

Q: I can't find something because it's not where I'm used to seeing it. What do I do?

A: Go to the search window at the top of any page, and type in a keyword for what you're looking for; it should appear in a listing of content with that keyword in it. If you still can't find what you need, drop us a note using the feedback form on the Customer Service page and we'll help you find it.

Q: Where are the obituaries?

A: Click on "Full Menu" or tap the three horizontal bars in the top blue bar, then on "News" where you'll find the "Obituaries" and "Obits Archives" links.

Q: Where is the e-Edition?

A: Click on "Full Menu" or tap the three horizontal bars in the top blue bar, then on "Customer Service" where you'll find the "E-Edition" link. You can also find an "E-Edition" link in the footer of the website under the "Subscriptions" heading.

Q: Where are the contests? Where's "Gridiron Hits"?

Q: Where can I send a letter to the editor?

A: Click on "Full Menu" or tap the three horizontal bars in the top blue bar, then on "Opinion" where you'll find the "Submit a Letter" link. That will get you to the form to submit a letter to the editor.

Q: Where is the best place to find breaking news?

A: Check the "Latest News" digest at the top of the home page for latest news.

Q: How do I find what other people are reading?

A: A list of "Trending Stories" of the day can be found on the right side of most pages on the site.

Q: How do I find photo galleries and video?

A: Galleries and videos are published in their relevant sections - Seattle Seahawks, Local News, etc.

Q: Where did my favorite blog go?

A: Blogs can be found under their relevant topics. For example, "Seahawks Insider" is under Sports, and "TNT Diner" is under Entertainment.

Q: I have my favorite sections or pages on your site bookmarked. Will those bookmarks still work?

A: Yes, they should. We did remove some redundant sections, so you may need to update bookmarks for some pages. If you can't find it, send us an email through our Contact Us page.

Q: I need a story from yesterday or another past date. Are they still online?

A: Type some keywords for the story you're looking for in the search box (on the right side of the blue bar), and click the magnifying glass icon right next to it. If the story is still available, you should see it linked on your results page.

Some stories are available for free on our site for a few weeks. After that, they move to our archives, which you can access for a small fee after you set up an account.

The new website

Q: Why change?

A: Our main goal for the new design has been to make the site easier to use and less cluttered, while still providing all the information you expect to find. You should immediately notice that the site's speed has improved. And, the site is now designed to work well on your phone or tablet as well as your desktop computer. Just type "thenewstribune.com" in the browser on your device.

Q: Am I going to get used to this only to have you change it again?

A: This is the first version of our new site, and we do expect to add features and enhancements in the weeks and months ahead. But the look of the site will basically remain the same.

Q: Will I need to register my The News Tribune Plus+ account again?

A: No. Your existing user name and password have been carried over to the new site.

Q: I can "like" a story on other sites and have it show up on my Facebook page. What about here?

A: Yes. When you are on a story or gallery page, a Facebook "Share" button is located just to the left of the start of an article. You can click on that and share the story on Facebook. For galleries, those same options are right above the headline.

Q: I'm using an older browser. Will that make a difference in what the site looks like to me?

A: You'll have the best experience on our site by using Firefox 21 and above, Internet Explorer 8 and above, Chrome 27 and above and Safari 6.05 and above.

Q: When I try to get the RSS feeds in Chrome, I get a page of code. What do I do?

A. Try Firefox or Safari, while we see what we need to do to get it to work in Chrome.

Q: How do I make a suggestion, offer a comment or ask a question about the new site?

A: Please go to our Customer Service page and give us your feedback using the form we have posted there. We'd like to hear from you. To get there, click on "Full Menu" or tap the three horizontal bars in the top green bar, and you'll find it's the second link.


Q: How do I order a subscription to the newspaper?

A: To subscribe to the The News Tribune, click on the "Subscribe" link in the upper left corner of any page on thenewstribune.com. You can reach our Circulation department at 800-905-0296.

Q: Where can I start or stop my newspaper subscription?

A: On the "Customer Service" page you will find links to manage your subscription. You can also reach our Circulation department at 800-905-0296.


Q: How do I place a classified ad?

A: Click on "Full Menu" or tap the three horizontal bars in the top blue bar, where you'll find the "Place An Ad" link at the bottom.

Q: Can I still comment on articles?

A: Yes, the commenting function works the same as on the old site.

Q: Do I need to have a Facebook account to comment?

A: Yes, you need to have an active Facebook account to comment. If you don't have a Facebook account, you will be prompted to sign up for one when you try to post a comment on our website. You can also get one at www.facebook.com. Once you've signed up with Facebook, you must add a profile photo and be connected with at least four friends before you will be able to easily comment and share stories. Your comments may only be visible to you and your friends for the first few days after you sign up.

Q: What if I don't want to participate in Facebook?

A: Only Facebook users will now be allowed to post comments on our articles.

Q: Will Facebook be monitoring the comments now?

A: No, Facebook does not moderate comments.

Q: Are we being paid by Facebook to do this?

A: No.

Q: How do I sign in through the article?

A: After you enter your comment, when you click on Comment, a pop-up window will appear asking you to sign-in via Facebook.

• If you do not see the pop-up window after you click on Comment, make sure that you have your pop-up blocker turned off.

• If you are already signed in to Facebook on your computer or device, you won't be asked to sign-in. You can simply post your comment.

Q: Why does my Facebook profile picture and name appear on the comments page when I haven't even posted a comment?

A: If you're signed in at Facebook.com, your information will appear, but it is not visible to anyone else until your comment is published.

Q: Will all my comments be posted to my Facebook page so everyone can see it?

A: Not necessarily. When you start to write a comment, you'll be given the option of post to Facebook right under it. All you have to do is unclick that box, and it will not be shown on your Facebook page.

Q: Can other people commenting see my personal information, e-mail, location, etc.?

A: What others see when they click on your name or picture on our site is determined by your Facebook privacy settings. Those settings allow you to decide how much information you want to share with your friends or others. To adjust your Facebook privacy settings, visit: www.facebook.com/help/privacy.

Q: Why doesn't my comment appear to others?

A: Facebook has aggressive spam filters. If your Facebook account is new or you have fewer than five "friends" on Facebook, they will automatically hide your comment.

Q: What is your commenting policy?

Please keep comments civil, short and to the point. ALL CAPS, spam, obscene, profane, abusive and off topic comments will be deleted. Repeat offenders will be blocked.

Q: How do I report an inappropriate or abusive comment?

A: Hover over the upper right corner of the comment until an "X" appears. Then click the "X" and choose one of the options to report a comment as spam or abuse. The comment will be removed from your view. Facebook does track abuse reports and automatically bans users who are consistently abusive.

Q: Why can't I see the comments?

A: Comments on this site are public, which means anyone logged in or out of Facebook should be able to view them. If you cannot see the comments, please check with your IT department. Some government agencies and other employers block Facebook domains and applications from their servers.

Q: How do I manage my account, change privacy settings, and share my comments?

Q: Do I need to keep an active Facebook account to post?

A: We look for real names, some kind of picture, and enough information on it to convince us you are a real person. Whether you do anything else with your Facebook account other than using it to log in to our site is entirely up to you.

Q: Do I have to use my own photo?

A: No, you can pick whatever else best expresses yourself as your photo. The photo shown is the main photo on your Facebook account page.

Q: What is a Top Commenter and how do I become one?

A: Facebook automatically assigns The Top Commenter badge to users whose comments are most often "Liked" by others. To earn the Top Commenter badge, keep doing what you're doing: being civil and respectful, respecting other viewpoints and following the Conversation Guidelines.
