After five rounds and nearly 2,400 votes cast, The News Tribune has an answer to the question it has been asking for the past month: What is Pierce County’s favorite place to grab a taco?

Well, we almost have an answer.

With an unprecedented championship round tie of 147 votes apiece, Taqueria El Sabor and Tacos Guaymas have tied for the Tacoma area’s go-to taco joint, becoming co-champions of our bracket.

Taqueria El Sabor

1636 S. Mildred St., Tacoma

What to know: Taqueria El Sabor was a favorite coming into the first round of the bracket, having received the third-most submissions from readers when we first asked for the best taco joints in Tacoma.

Taqueria El Sabor is one of the best places you can go in the West End for cheap but memorable Mexican, selling tacos for an affordable $1.64 each. If that doesn’t whet your appetite, the restaurant is also offering 15% off all online orders for a limited time.

If you’re looking for a spot to celebrate National Taco Day, Taqueria El Sabor should be near the top of your list.

Tacos Guaymas

2630 S. 38th St., Tacoma

1148 72nd St. East, Tacoma

What to know: There are five Tacos Guaymas in Washington state, and Pierce County is lucky enough to have two of those.

Tacos Guaymas gives you the choice of 14 proteins for your taco, including some lesser-seen options such as picadillo (beef and potatoes), cabeza (beef cheek) and lengua (tongue). Of course, there are still your traditional options of chicken, beef and pork for those wanting something a bit more conventional.

Veggie tacos are also available along with taco salads.

Pierce County’s other favorite tacos

Although only one restaurant could win, the bracket started with 32 different restaurants, taquerias and taco trucks. Check out the results of the previous rounds below and see if any other local favorites pique your interest:
