New cafe with coffee, sweet and savory crepes now open in downtown Tacoma

There’s a new place to grab a latte and a sweet treat in downtown Tacoma.

Cafeto 21 opened at the beginning of the month at 1127 Broadway, Suite 101, serving up coffee, matcha and a variety of crepes, among other bites.

The cafe moved into the space about three months ago, replacing Eather Tea, a tea and dessert shop that closed at the end of last year after just a few months in business.

Cafeto 21 (pronounced caf-ay-to) owner Esteban Regla said he and his cousin, who owned a coffee shop in Mexico, decided to go into business together when they moved to Washington five years ago.

Regla’s cousin, Juan Pablo, sold crepes from a street cart before the duo opened a cafe in Renton, called Redondo Coffee & Crepes.

Regla said they were looking to open another coffee shop, and Tacoma fit the bill. The menu for Cafeto 21 mirrors the menu at Redonado, Regla said, with an emphasis on crepes.

The thin pancakes come in sweet and savory varieties, and range from $12.49 to $13.49. The Berries Delight is filled with strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and Nutella, while the Pesto comes with pesto, mozzarella and mixed greens.

You can also make your own crepe, choosing from fillings like fruit, cream cheese, Nutella and ice cream, with toppings like marshmallows, Oreos and marzipan.

As for drinks, all basic coffee varieties are available, as well as matcha, horchata, smoothies and energy drinks. Most small sizes start at $3 or $4, while larger sizes can cost up to $6.50.

Other bites stay in the $12 to $14 price range, and include avocado toast with eggs, sandwiches with turkey and ham, prosciutto or roast beef, and customizable sweet waffles.

The cafe is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day.
