Mmmmm ... pie. Here are 10 destinations to check out in and around Tacoma

The Fourth of July often brings to mind fireworks, hot dogs and perhaps, pie. What’s more American than apple pie?

Extreme pie lovers might sign up for the nearest pie-eating contest, but if you’d like to consume the dessert in an orderly fashion, there are plenty of local bakeries, restaurants and other pie destinations to check out in and around Tacoma.

But we also want to hear from you, readers. Which local spot makes your favorite pie? In the poll at the bottom of the article, cast your vote for one of the pie-makers listed or tell us a spot we missed.

Spilled Butter Desserts

This micro scratch bakery whips up quite a variety of baked goods, including a substantial selection of pies. The 9-inch pies are made to serve eight people and go for $31. Flavors include mixed berry, key lime, peach, classic apple, coconut cream, strawberry rhubarb and peanut butter and jelly. Note that the bakery is not a retail storefront, it’s only a pick-up location for orders. You can place orders by phone or online.

Eudora’s Bakery & Cafe

Sweet potato treats are on display at Eudora’s, and that goes for the pies, too. Sweet potato pies come in regular ($26) and mini ($6) sizes, along with other flavors like apple and pecan, which go for $28.50 and $28, respectively.

Love By The Slice

This Hilltop bakery offers over a dozen different types of pie, ranging from $26 to $34. Varieties include cookies and cream, sweet potato, caramel apple, pecan, pumpkin, lemon meringue and peach blueberry. If you can’t decide, Love by the Slice offers pie sampler boxes for $49.95. You can pre-order whole pies online.

Corina Bakery

This bakery right next to The Grand Cinema has pies in both classic and creative flavors, with vegan and gluten-free versions often available. Flavors include marionberry, classic apple, banana cream, chocolate marsala cream, peach melba and bourbon pecan. Pies range from $39 to $43.

Metropolitan Market

While Met Market might be known for “The Cookie,” the local chain carries a wide variety of pies from bakeries across the Pacific Northwest. You’ll find marionberry cobbler and cherry crunch pie for around $13-14 from Willamette Valley Pie Co., based in Oregon, along with tart cherry, apple and strawberry rhubarb pies from Langley-based Whidbey Pies, which go for $24-27. Met Market also has pies from Belle Epicurean, a Seattle-based bakery, in flavors like key lime and lemon meringue for $27.

Maggie Magee’s Bake Shop

This Fircrest bakery offers pies in classic flavors like pumpkin, pecan, apple, sweet potato and peach, plus apple crumble and berry crumble. All flavors can be made vegan, gluten-free or both vegan and gluten-free, and pies go for $35. You can pre-order pie online.

Homestead Restaurant & Bakery

This homey, barn-shaped restaurant serves up breakfast, lunch and dinner, and for dessert, some classic slices of pie. Flavors include apple, cherry, chocolate cream, coconut cream and banana cream. Slices range from $4-5, while whole pies go for $12-15.

Anglea’s Restaurant

This retro diner in Midland has pies whole and by the slice (plus hand pies). Flavors include strawberry rhubarb, blackberry, apple, cherry, chocolate peanut butter and coconut creme. Slices go for $8, while whole pies go for $32.

Antique Sandwich Co.

This longtime Tacoma sandwich spot always has lots of sweet treats available. Homemade pies come whole and by the slice, in flavors like marionberry and blueberry peach. Pie slices go for $6.95. To see the selection each day, you can call ahead or visit in-person.

Susanne’s Bakery

This Gig Harbor bakery and cafe whips up a selection of 9-inch pies in classic flavors, ranging from $36 to $40. Varieties include marionberry, strawberry rhubarb, apple, sour cherry, key lime and coconut cream. You can order pies online.
