More Amazon jobs coming to Sumner later this year
Amazon announced Thursday that it will launch another fulfillment center in Sumner.
Amazon representative Ashley Robinson said the company will open the site later this year, bringing hundreds of full-time jobs.
The online retailer will move into the Rainier Building in Sumner Corporate Park, a 400,000 square-foot site.
Amazon opened a nearly 500,000 square-foot-facility across the street in 2011.
“Hiring will start as we get closer to the building’s launch, which won’t be for a few months,” Robinson told The News Tribune via email.
The site will handle larger items, such as TVs, riding lawn mowers and kayaks. That is a slightly different focus than the other centers in the region.
This latest news follows Amazon’s multiday hiring event last week in Tacoma, where about 250 people showed up in one day, as the retailer sought to hire 1,000 in the area for its Kent fulfillment center.
WorkSource Pierce said last week it will focus on hiring for fulfillment centers in DuPont and Sumner in future job events.
