The store is built, the signage is up, but the opening of the new Gig Harbor Fred Meyer has been delayed.

Fred Meyer had hoped to open the new store at Olympic Towne Center on Point Fosdick Drive on Aug. 30, but the opening now is on hold while the center’s developer completes the easement process for 32nd Avenue, according to city and store officials.

The road is behind the store and part of the site’s traffic-mitigation requirements.

The developer, WWR Properties, did not respond to requests for comment from The News Tribune.

The store, which will replace the existing one off Olympic Drive, has had its opening day pushed down the calendar more than once.

Once the store takes occupancy, it can take up to five weeks to have it stocked and ready, according to a Fred Meyer representative.
