‘We missed you Tacoma.’ McMenamins Elks Temple reopening for takeout

McMenamins Elks Temple in Tacoma was set to reopen Friday, April 24, for takeout orders, one year to the day of its original opening.

In a Facebook post on April 22, the site said it would be reopen for orders starting at 11 a.m.

“Two grand openings in one year, that has to be a record! We missed you Tacoma,” the post said.

McMenamins Elks Temple opened April 24, 2019 to huge crowds and a bagpipe performance. This re-opening, minus the standing-room-only crowd, will offer selections from an abbreviated menu.

“We are working now on getting our limited menus up online, and once we are open you can give us a call to place your order, then come by to pick up,” according to its announcement.

The Bottle Shop will reopen Friday, May 1, according to a McMenamins representative reached by The News Tribune on Thursday.

According to the Facebook post, “We will be able to fill growlers in the pub and you can buy Mc beer and wine still! We will be taking all the safety precautions necessary as we transition into this new way of being open.

“We appreciate your patience and support through all of this and we are excited to serve you again.”

The regional entertainment chain of restaurants, hotels and pubs announced March 17 it was temporarily shutting down operations in Washington and Oregon in response to limits of crowd sizes in response to slowing the spread of COVID-19.

In the ensuing weeks, it maintained its online store and promoted items such as the Elks Temple star emblem bandana, which it promoted for use as a face mask during the coronavirus pandemic.

It also had offered curbside pickup at its Edgefield site in Troutdale, Oregon, and maintained operations at its bottle shop in Portland.

In an update it sent out April 16, McMenamins said it had canceled hotel reservations at its sites until Memorial Day weekend and would keep guests updated on future concert dates.
