The owner/developer of the former site of The News Tribune announced a new tenant for that site and a separate one in Pacific.

Davis Property & Investment of Kent announced Wednesday that Infinity Global Distribution will lease the entire Tacoma Central Logistics center, 1950 S. State St., Tacoma.

The property was purchased from The McClatchy Co., parent company of The News Tribune, in August 2021 for $15.5 million. The site is next to the Allenmore Golf Course.

The News Tribune now operates its news division in a hybrid model that includes coworking offices in downtown Tacoma. Most employees for the digital and print media company stopped working at the State Street site at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 to work from home. Earlier, print operations moved off site in 2019. The entire business vacated the site in May 2021.

According to Wednesday’s announcement, Infinity Global Distribution has leased 248,033 square feet, alongside 3,000 square feet of office space at the new Tacoma Central Logistics, with an expected move-in completed by September.

The Seattle-based company specializes in warehouse and distribution services.

Tony Wilmoth, vice president of sales for the company, said in a statement, “This new space will further our expansion within this market and allow us to meet existing demands.”

IGD touted its new site in a LinkedIn post this week.

Separately, Sumner-based Toysmith Investment has leased all of another DPI development site, Pacific 167 Logistics in Pacific. That space comprises 159,055 square feet, including 7,500 square feet of office space. It is set to move in in December.

The Pacific site will serve as the new headquarters for the company, which specializes in high-quality toys and gifts in various sectors, including toy retailers and educational markets as well as museums, zoos, national parks, attractions, theme parks, gift stores, specialty catalogs and online retailers.

DPI says it now has achieved a leasing volume of more than 4.4 million square feet in the Northwest. The company manages and owns nearly 5 million square feet of commercial real estate that spans the I-5 corridor Seattle to Portland, Oregon.

What’s next for art?

Jeff Davis, owner of DPI, told The News Tribune via email in response to questions that work is continuing on landing a permanent home for the Chihuly art installation that was formerly hanging in The News Tribune’s multi-story glass-framed lobby.

“It is still in storage, and we just met with the Museum of Glass yesterday,” he wrote. “I’m hoping to donate it to them as soon as they have the budget for installation. My goal is to keep it in Tacoma for everyone to view and experience.”

An email and voicemail to the museum’s executive director were not returned Wednesday afternoon.
