A popular regional burger chain might finally open a site in Pierce County.

While executives with Burgerville have expressed interest in the area before, this time the consideration comes amid expansion plans and the addition of new investor partners.

May Han, chief development officer for Vancouver, Washington-based Burgerville, told The News Tribune in response to a recent reader poll that Pierce County is a contender again for a future site.

“As Burgerville begins to expand, we are considering sites along the I-5 corridor, including Pierce County,” Han said via email.

“We are grateful for the demand and look forward to the opportunity to serve your residents,” Han added.

Burgerville was one of the top two vote-getters in a recent News Tribune Readers Poll that asked what home improvement, grocery or restaurant brands people would like to see come to Tacoma and/or Pierce County. Expect a story on the full poll results later this week.

Burgerville’s closest location for now is in Centralia.

Other than making the trek south, local fans in the past might have been lucky enough to encounter the “Burgerville Nomad,” a roving Burgerville mobile food vendor that served up burgers and fries and other fare.

The truck in 2015 was in lieu of developing a local site after company officials previously floated plans to open a site in the Tacoma-Olympia market.

The burger chain was launched in 1961 and has grown to 40 locations across Oregon and Southwest Washington, primarily in towns along I-5 and in the Vancouver area. Han, a former Dutch Bros executive, was announced as taking on her current role with Burgerville in September.

The September announcement also noted that the brand was preparing “to more than double the number of existing locations in the coming years.”

An earlier announcement about new investors coming on board noted that “In the coming year, the company plans to open restaurants in Salem and Keizer, followed by expansion north and east of its store in Centralia, Washington.”
